As a long-time partner of the Lumière Film Festival, OCS continues to support heritage cinema. OCS General Manager Guillaume Jouhet explains.
What films is OCS bringing to the Lumière Film Festival this year?
We are presenting two documentaries, one devoted to Fritz Lang's masterpiece, Metropolis, in the series "Europa Maudits", which looks back at the genesis of this great classic of futuristic cinema; the other is a conversation with Étienne Chatiliez, director of some of the great successes of French cinema, from Life is a Long Quiet River to Tanguy. We are currently working on the restoration of a film by Luis Buñuel, El, in collaboration with Les Films du Camélia, but it has not been included in the festival programme. We are still restoring it anyway!
Every year OCS supports the Lumière Film Festival in terms of programming. Can you give us an idea of what will be on the air during this period?
We have a Clint Eastwood series, including Honkytonk Man, and we're hoping that Kyle Eastwood, who stars in the film alongside his father, will pick up a few songs for his concert at the festival. We pay tribute to Sidney Lumet by programming The Morning After, Dog Day Afternoon and Prince of the City. And then, like every year, there will be a tribute to Bertrand Tavernier with the programming of The Judge and the Assassin.
What ratio do heritage films represent in OCS programming?
It is stable with forty new titles per month, i.e. two hundred heritage films available over the same period. We know that our subscribers who are fond of classic films tend to be women, and over forty years old. We have two types of subscribers: fans of series who like to watch them directly on their computer; and film fans, who are a little older, who watch via their box, in linear mode, and who take advantage of the OCS Giants channel, dedicated to the history of cinema.
The screening you won't miss at the Lumière Film Festival 2022?
I'll give you two answers: I don't want to miss the concert of Kyle Eastwood, whose music I really like, on Wednesday at the Auditorium of Lyon. And I will go and see the documentary on Metropolis again..
