Quote of the day

PostED ON 21.10.2022

«All our efforts must be directed towards the abstraction of anything not in the true domain of cinema, towards the ‘sweeping away’ of all that is useless, trivial and derived from other sources - all the ‘tricks’, ‘gags’, the expedients, and clichés that are foreign to the cinema, but derived from the theatre and literature. This was accomplished when certain films reached the level of high art. We must try to achieve ever-further simplicity, devotion to technique and purely cinematic subjects.»

F.W. Murnau, cinema purist, in ‘Ciné’ 1927
